There are so many things to do and see within a half hour drive of the
house. During your stay we can provide you with lots of local
information. We have listed some local attractions for you with links to
their websites:
Goodnestone Park Estate
is a mile away and many of the houses there are the same style as
Twitham Court Farm. The gardens are a hidden gem consisting of an
amazing array of gardens in different styles. In the Summer months it
hosts an array of open air concerts and plant fairs. Well worth a visit.
Sandwich is close by with its quaint narrow medieval streets and
specialist shops. The bay is a wonderful stretch of clean coastline.
Then of course there’s the golf. The famous
Royal St Georges,
Princes
and
Royal Cinque Ports Golf Clubs
are all within a couple of miles from the centre of Sandwich.
Canterbury is only 15 minutes from the house. It’s a vibrant city – full
of history and yet suited to modern day life. It’s a shoppers dream with
both individual specialist shops and the usual high street favourites.
The
Cathedral
is a World Heritage Site and home to the
Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the Anglican church. Other attractions include the
Marlowe Theatre,
The Canterbury Tales, Canterbury
Royal
Museum
and Art
Gallery and many more.
Barnsole Vineyard. A family run vineyard in Staple. They produce both
red and white wines under the Quality Wine Scheme. Open every day for
free wine tastings.
Howletts Wild Animal Park. The late John Aspinall set up Howletts and
Port Lympne Animal Parks with the aim of protecting both endangered and
protected species. This work still continues today and you can see many
of the endangered and protected species at the park. It’s a fun family
day out.
Wingham Wildlife Park. A fun family day out. The park houses a tropical
house, animal hospital and a pet village. There's also an adventure
playground.
Authentic Kent Pubs. There some great local, very traditional
Kent pubs nearby. They all serve excellent food and have a warm friendly
atmosphere.
Eurostar &
Dover Ferries. These are both only a short distance away and
provide for a great day out to France.
Beaches. There is a lovely pebble beach only a couple of miles away at
Sandwich bay. Amongst the usual beach activities there is
sailing and water skiing. If you want to go to a sandy beach, the nearest is at
Broadstairs about a 20 minute drive away.
